FAQs About Resurrection SC

Q. Why did you select Spartanburg County as the location for your church plant?

A. Three reasons led us to Spartanburg County.

First, with the closure in 2019 of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in the City of Spartanburg, there is no active Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod congregation in one of South Carolina’s largest counties. Second, some of those parishioners are looking for a new LCMS church home, as are residents new to the area who are moving here from other parts of the country. And third, we have a willing partner in Immanuel Lutheran Church, an established LCMS congregation in Simpsonville, to help see the project through.

Q. Where will your church be located?

A. Wherever the Holy Spirit, and needs of potential congregation members, leads us! In the coming months, as interest in the new congregation grows, we’ll look at locations that makes sense for those who want to join us. We’ll consider real estate costs, proximity to other LCMS congregations, and other factors.

Q. Where will you meet in the meantime?

A. We’re working on that and will post updated information on our website and in emails to those who have provided us with their contact information. It’s likely that, initially, we’ll meet in a facility repurposed to accommodate the needs of a church congregation’s worship and Bible study. As our numbers grow, we can look for a permanent location for our congregation.

Q. When will the congregation meet?

A. At present, we hope to announce a regular schedule of Bible studies, with times and locations to be determined. As far as a regular worship schedule is concerned, we’re looking at the third quarter of this year

Q. Who will lead the congregation?

A. In the “About” section of this website, spiritual leadership will be led by Bruce Selin (see more about Bruce in the Latest News section, as well), with assistance and oversight by Rev. Jeff Van Osdol of Immanuel Lutheran in Simpsonville. Lay leadership, managing the nuts and bolts of a new congregation, is Norm Anderson. As new prospective members are identified, and a charter, constitution and bylaws are adopted, the leadership will grow from Resurrection’s membership.

Q. Who can I contact for more information?

A. Please use the contact form on the home page of our website. We’ll get back in touch with you as soon as possible. A telephone number will be activated in the very near future, allowing you to speak with the church plant team directly.

Q. How can I find out more about Lutherans and what they believe?

A. A number of resources can be found right on our website, from the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod website to Lutheran publications and other outlets that explain why we’re “uniquely Lutheran!”
